Art of the Day: Aloenira

The Vidh – Aloenira

Digital art – September 2011

Another Vidh to end the week. This piece is was my attempt at working with an entire scene in a digital medium and a repaint of my very first attempt at trying to paint in Photoshop.

Aloenira is a druidic Vidh that lives in the same colony as The voice of He (a little info on him in yesterdays post). The proud druid stands in the primordial forest encouraging the quick growth of vines to protect herself, help the forest or perhaps she is simply helping the forest recover it’s plant life. The magical elements she harnesses are Empyrean, Air, Ether, and Spirit.

There is one thing very rare about this druid, she was once a Gjåle. In her youth Aloenira was on a journey as a cleric and abandoned by her traveling partner. She quickly realized she was lost and being near the Black Forest chose to risk it’s many dangers. With much difficulty she managed to keep herself alive, though unbeknownst to her with the help of a Vidh. After close to a year of this he showed himself and continued helping her for several more years and slowly managed to integrate her into Vidh society.

Art of the Day: Giltherun

The Vidh – Giltherun: The voice of He.

Mixed Media – Digital and traditional – November 2011

I chose this piece today to expand a little upon the Vidh that was mentioned in yesterdays post and I will introduce you to another figure from this group tomorrow. The Vidh are the tallest of our elves, the males able to reach heights over seven feet while the females average around six and a half feet. They live in colonies spread out in the Black Forest occasionally making contact with one another and constantly work to keep their homes defended from the wilds that always press in on them.

This is a piece I actually did around 2007 in an old sketchbook in pencil. When I started experimenting with photoshop I eventually managed to scan in some things I wished to make finished pieces out of. Giltherun has for some time been my idea of the ultimate elven druid so here he is transformed into The Voice of He, a druid of high standing. He is known and respected by all the colonies of the Black Forest. This primordial forest lies in the north and is the largest of its kind known to the peoples in our world.

Giltherun practices nature magic, using the elements of Empyrean, Earth, and Air to help his people and the forest. Some say he is so close to He that he often disappears into the thick trees and wanders their lands as a huge bear sometimes taking days using this form to communicate more deeply with the will of He.

Art of the Day: The God and the Goddess

The God and the Goddess

Digital art – January 2011

I decided to continue with the deity theme today and showcase an older piece on the God and the Goddess. These two are older gods in our world in Cultura worshiped by the Vidh, or what some might think of as Forest Elves. The Vidh are the eldest of the elven races and thought to be the ones from whom the others came. They call these two deities She who Destroys and He who Creates.

Being the penultimate deities of their people, She and He have been ascribed by the Vidh to the control of base phenomenon of nature. They work together to keep nature in balance. She being responsible for destructive forces such as wild fires, severe storms, and earthquakes, feeding off the life He provides, and He works to rebalance life in her wake. Shown are the humanoid visual representations but she is known for actually taking the forms of the destructive forces she manifests, He is said to take the shape of whatever life he wishes, though most popularly thought to show himself as a larger than life animal, such  but typically is represented as a stag, bear, or fish.
